Why Should I Become a Certified Be Kind Advocate
As a pet professional, your mission goes beyond just getting results—it’s about how those results are achieved. You choose to become a Certified Be Kind Advocate because your community, its pet guardians, and pets deserve a standard of care rooted entirely in kindness, science, and respect.
For professionals, this certification isn’t just a badge; it’s a promise. It means:
-
An Uncompromising Standard: I have committed to a strict, force-free Professional Code of Conduct.
-
Rigorous Education: I have completed advanced training in human-canine dynamics to truly understand and support your pets’ emotional well-being.
-
A Systemized Guarantee: When you leave your best friend in my hands, you aren’t just getting a service—you are getting a formal guarantee of safety, empathy, and positive reinforcement.
I choose to run my business on the belief that true skill means never needing to use intimidation. No fear. No force. No exceptions.
Why Wellbeing Over Welfare
While animal welfare represents the structural framework of care—ensuring a pet’s physical health, safety, and basic legal protections are met—well-being focuses on the animal’s immediate, subjective emotional state and quality of life from their own perspective.
Welfare asks whether an animal’s basic needs are met, but well-being asks, “Is this animal truly thriving, feeling safe, and experiencing positive emotions right now?”
We must focus heavily on well-being because a pet can technically have excellent physical welfare (being well-fed, vetted, and sheltered) while still suffering from severe underlying fear, anxiety, or stress.
Elevating our focus to well-being ensures we aren’t just keeping animals physically secure, but are actively protecting their emotional health, eliminating fear-based compliance, and fostering genuine trust between species.
The Divide in Our Industry
If you’ve worked in the pet industry for more than several weeks, you already know the deep divide that exists between two very different philosophies:
The Goal-Oriented Trainer:
-
Focuses solely on getting the job done.
-
Ignores the process and the emotional toll on the animal.
-
Prioritizes short-term compliance.
The Well-being First Professional:
-
Puts the pet’s emotional well-being and welfare front and center.
-
Supports and guides both the pets and their human families.
-
Prioritizes long-term trust, safety, and mutual respect.
Where Do You Stand?
Are you a goal-oriented trainer, or are you a well-being-first professional?
Do you believe we need to learn to implement kindness not just as a feeling, but as a strict policy, a specific skill set, standard operating procedures, and best practices?
If so, then the Be Kind Advocate certification program is exactly what you should be looking at.
Stake your claim. Fly your flag. Support the well-being of pets and pet owners.

Because Love is Never Enough!
Why Operationalizing Kindness in Training, Handling, and Business Makes Sense!
Kindness as a Competency.
This program proposes a radical shift: Kindness is not just a feeling; it is a technical skill set.
It is the disciplined application of behavioral science to ensure that the animals in our care feel safe, heard, and understood. It is about “Operationalizing Kindness.” This means turning compassion into a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
-
It is not enough to feel sorry for a scared dog. You must understand the mechanics of Desensitization and Counter-Conditioning (DSCC) to alleviate that fear.
-
It is not enough to want a dog to be happy; you must understand the biochemistry of enrichment to generate the dopamine required for that happiness.
For decades, the pet care industry—spanning training, grooming, veterinary medicine, and pet sitting—operated under a paradigm where “care” was synonymous with “control.” A well-trained dog was defined as a compliant dog, regardless of the emotional cost of that compliance. A “good” grooming client was a dog that stood still on the table, even if that stillness was born of terror-induced freezing.
We loved them, but we didn’t always understand them. We confused suppression with behavior. We confused shutting down with calming down.
The Evolution of Kindness
True kindness requires us to evolve. It requires us to look at the animal not as a subject to be managed, but as a sentient learner participating in a two-way relationship.
Over the last thirty years, the sciences of ethology (animal behavior), neurobiology, and cognition have exploded. We now know that dogs have the cognitive capacity roughly equivalent to a 2.5-year-old human child. We know they experience optimism, pessimism, grief, and joy. We understand that the methods we use to handle them physically alter their brain architecture.
Who is The Advocacy Certification For?
It is not for those seeking faster compliance at the expense of emotional well-being. It does not offer shortcuts, dominance-based solutions, or methods that rely on fear, pain, or coercion to achieve results. What it offers instead is something more durable: trust, cooperation, and behavior that holds up under real-world conditions.
Your Ultimate Client Magnet
In a crowded marketplace, pet owners aren’t just looking for a service provider; they are looking for safety, trust, and peace of mind. High-pressure sales pitches don’t work anymore. Instead, modern pet professionals need an education-focused strategy that immediately signals their core values.
The Be Kind Advocate badge is exactly that strategy. Here is why it works so beautifully as a premium marketing tool:
1. It Satisfies the Pet Owner’s “Pattern Recognition”
Consumers are conditioned to look for specific patterns when choosing who to trust with their family members. Think of it like looking for an organic seal at the grocery store or a five-star safety rating on a car.
-
By displaying the Be Kind Advocate seal, you instantly satisfy that pattern search.
-
It serves as an immediate visual shorthand that screams, “This business is safe, ethical, and science-based.”
2. It Explicitly Defines How You Will Treat Their Pet
Clients often worry about what happens behind closed doors, especially given the outdated, aversive techniques still lingering in the industry. This certification removes all doubt. It acts as a transparent guarantee of your methodology, proving that you strictly prohibit fear, force, and pain. It tells the client: “I have systemized compassion into every single interaction with your animal.”
3. It Operationalizes Your Kindness as a Premium Asset
Kindness isn’t just a moral choice; it is a primary market differentiator. When you invest in advanced education and a formal Code of Conduct, you elevate your brand above the competition. Clients are entirely willing to pay premium pricing for professionals who prioritize emotional welfare and force-free care.
How to Say It to Your Clients
What Professionals Are Saying……… Review of the DogNostics Be Kind Advocate Certification
I recently completed both the Pet Professional and Pet Guardian Be Kind Advocate examinations and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
The certification process is straightforward and professional. Before beginning the exam, candidates verify their identity by holding photographic identification next to their face and taking a webcam photograph. The examination itself is also monitored through the webcam, which helps maintain the integrity of the certification and provides confidence that participants are genuinely completing the assessment themselves.
Each exam consists of approximately 30 questions with a generous one-hour time limit. The questions are clearly written, easy to understand, and free from confusing wording or trick questions. The assessments are open-book, allowing candidates to refer back to the accompanying texts when needed. I found this particularly beneficial because it encouraged me to revisit key concepts and confirm my understanding rather than relying solely on memory.
The certification is built around two excellent resources: The Compassionate Pet Professional: Operationalizing Kindness in Training, Handling, and Business and The Compassionate Pet Guardian: How to Truly Connect with Kindness and Love. The content is accessible for both pet professionals and guardians, making the certification relevant regardless of experience level.
One of the aspects I appreciated most was the emphasis on compassion and relationship-building. The material recognises that guardians are not “bad” people when challenges arise; often they simply lack the knowledge, tools, or support needed to move forward. The professional-focused content also reinforces the importance of supporting clients without judgment, criticism, or alienation. Instead, it provides practical guidance on helping guardians succeed, even when they are struggling with implementation or feeling overwhelmed.
Completing the certification motivated me to revisit the books, make additional notes, and reflect on how I can further implement the principles in my own work. I believe guardians would experience the same benefit, as the material encourages ongoing reflection and personal growth.
The value offered is exceptional. For approximately $50, participants receive both e-books as well as a bonus book, providing a significant amount of educational content and practical guidance.
I also appreciate the inclusion of a clear Code of Ethics. Participants must agree to uphold these standards, and the organisation makes it clear that misuse of the certification or behaviour inconsistent with the principles of kindness may result in removal of the credential. As someone who values ethical practice, I found this particularly reassuring and felt it added credibility and accountability to the programme.
Overall, I found the Be Kind Advocate Certification to be thoughtful, accessible, professionally delivered, and strongly aligned with compassionate, ethical practice. I would happily recommend it to both pet professionals and pet guardians who wish to deepen their understanding of kindness, empathy, and relationship-centred care.
Kind Regards,
