    Book Description

Paws, People, and Prosperity is the definitive roadmap for navigating the evolving landscape of your brand’s growth. Written by Niki Tudge with contributions from Louise Stapleton-Frappell, this guide reframes marketing not as self-promotion, but as a structured, science-based process of stewardship

Most pet professionals enter this industry because they love animals, not because they love “selling”. But in a crowded, unregulated market, having a “heart of gold” isn’t always enough to keep your doors open. If the thought of marketing makes you feel like a “fearful seller”—worried about being pushy or “taking” money—it is time to shift your mindset.

Marketing often feels like a "fearful" tug-of-war between the desire to help animals and the discomfort of "selling".

For the compassionate pet professional, marketing often feels like a “fearful” tug-of-war between the desire to help animals and the discomfort of “selling”. This book provides a revolutionary, ethics-first roadmap that reframes marketing not as self-promotion, but as a science-based process of stewardship for your skills. By mastering the IEEO model (Interrupt, Engage, Educate, and Offer), you will learn to bypass the biological gatekeepers of your client’s brain and move away from high-pressure sales into a “Comfort Zone” of mutual respect. Whether you are struggling with “visibility gaps,” looking to transition from selling hours to high-value programs, or wanting to calculate a guilt-free Minimum Billable Rate that reflects your true worth, this guide provides the exact blueprints to build a sustainable, profitable life. Integrity is your greatest competitive advantage; let this book show you how to stop just “keeping the doors open” and start leading as the recognized authority your community and its pets desperately need

I just finished reading the Marketing Guide for Compassionate Pet Professionals and was very impressed with the content. Niki and Louise thoroughly outlined the importance of marketing for dog owners and how to do it. As someone experienced in Sales and Marketing, this book offered several ‘aha’ moments that I will definitely apply to my dog training business. This book is a great guide for anyone looking to grow their business organically or on a low budget.  Way to go Niki and Louise

When Marketing Feels Uncomfortable (But Necessary) – I didn’t expect it to feel quite so… personal.

Marketing has always been the part of business that sits slightly heavy for me. Pricing, payments, visibility, talking about what I do without feeling “salesy.”

If you’re a compassionate pet professional, you’ll likely know that internal tug-of-war. We care deeply. We want to help. We don’t want to feel like we’re pushing.

What this book does beautifully is remove the emotional fog and replace it with structure.

It reframes marketing not as self-promotion, but as a process. A science, a cycle that can be measured, refined, and repeated. Not a personality trait. Not something reserved for the loudest voice in the room.

The sections on why small businesses fail felt particularly grounding — not accusatory but clarifying. Poor visibility isn’t a character flaw. Poor planning is not moral failure. They’re structural gaps. And gaps can be addressed.

The most powerful shift for me so far has been around buyer behaviour. Clients move: Away from pain, Toward pleasure, Toward peace of mind

That last one — peace of mind — matters so much in our industry. Especially for guardians of reactive, anxious, ageing, or medically complex dogs. Ethical marketing isn’t manipulation. It’s helping people feel safe enough to choose support.

In a saturated market, it’s easy to shrink. To lower prices. To question whether we “deserve” to be visible. This book gently challenges that. If people can’t find you, they can’t benefit from your work. And perhaps marketing, when done ethically, isn’t about selling at all — it’s about stewardship of your skills.

    And that feels important.

Their examples go beyond the surface sheen of basic marketing, giving you the tools to communicate that you are the professional who will address the real difficulties facing today’s pet owner.

In doing so, they address the heart-centered ethical readers who understand: this calling goes far beyond performing cut-and-dried chores for pets and their guardians. With their emphasis on ethics, Niki and Louise encourage business leaders to move forward with both confidence and integrity, deftly navigating the uncomfortable ick often associated with marketing.
