How To Collect and Leverage Testimonials
In the pet industry, trust is the currency. A potential client is handing you the keys to their home or the leash of their “fur baby.” They are skeptical of your marketing but trust other pet owners’ words.
A testimonial is Social Proof. It proves you deliver what you promise.
1. The Timing: Catch Them in the “Moment of Delight.”
The biggest mistake business owners make is asking too late. If you wait until six months after the training is over, the client’s emotional connection to the success has faded.
When to Ask:
- Trainers: Immediately after a breakthrough (e.g., the first time the dog walks nicely on a leash, or at the graduation ceremony of a puppy class).
- Walkers/Sitters: When the client sends you a text saying, “Thank you so much, the photos looked great!”
- Groomers: When they pick up the dog and say, “Wow, he looks amazing!”
The Rule: When they pay you a compliment, ask for the review.
2. The “Ask”: Reducing Friction
If you just ask a client to “write a review,” they will likely procrastinate because they don’t know what to write. You must guide them.
